It’s Friday! We hope you’re feeling good!
Isn’t this photo lovely?
Lewis Miller Design, a floral company in New York, goes around the city adding a little creative flair to make people’s days. The multicolored assortments are their “labors of love,” according to the company’s owner, Lewis Paul Miller.
This arrangement, among many, is considered a gift to New York. “That’s really the message — to gift flowers to New Yorkers for no other reason than to make them smile.”
After pondering starting this project for years, Miller and his team got started last year, waking up early in the mornings – before many rise – to put together bold creations with flowers that are often recycled from their events.
“If they’re really early risers and they come while we’re making them, they ask us what it’s for,” said Irini Greenbaum, the company’s director for special projects in TODAY. “And we say, ‘It’s for you.’ They truly don’t believe us — that disbelief is very New York.”
“We try and use flowers from a previous event when we can. And by doing so, we give the flowers a second life,” Miller told News 4.
The flowers sometimes even gain a third or fourth life. After a flash, Miller’s team took many of the remaining flowers to BloomAgainBklyn, a non-profit that arranges flowers for hospices and nursing homes. Other times, especially from the trash can installations, people take a few flowers home from themselves.
LMD surprises viewers with their work – the location is never disclosed beforehand. To see more of the company’s feel-good installments, check out their Instagram or search the hashtags #LMDxNYC , #lewismillerdesigns, or #lmdwashere .
