Program Description:
Screen use of smart phones, computers and video gaming has increased significantly. This program identifies what screen use does to our brains, who is most at risk, treatments & prevention techniques available and where to seek additional resources.
The demand for greater recognition and treatment of problematic use of internet and video games has been growing exponentially in the digital age, and will continue to climb during and after the pandemic. Evidence continues to support key similarities between internet and video game use disorders and substance use disorders.
By combining this evidence with the instructor’s expertise as a clinical psychiatrist, consultant, and educator specifically on gaming, internet and digital use, this online course will give psychologists and other mental health clinicians some of the tools they need to clinically assess and treat patients with digital use disorders.
The course is made up of 6 total modules of roughly ½ hour each, for a total time of 3.5 hours.
