About the Session

The Ross Center is offering a training session for therapists with CBT experience to learn more about how to use CBT for Insomnia.  This session will be led by Virginia Runko PhD, CBSM, a behavioral sleep medicine specialist who completed her BSM fellowship at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and has vast experience treating insomnia and sleep disorders. You can expect to gain techniques to use CBT to treat insomnia more effectively.

Participants will review the literature on assessing and identifying various sleep disorders and discuss evidence-based, behavioral sleep medicine interventions to address them. The course includes an in-depth review of CBT-I treatment.  At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

• Conduct a thorough sleep assessment, evaluating for insomnia, and other sleep disorders.

• Identify the components of CBT-I, including: sleep restriction, stimulus control, sleep hygiene, relaxation, and cognitive therapy.

• Apply the CBT-I components (as described above).

• Utilize sleep logs to guide treatment.

• Identify behavioral sleep medicine strategies to assess and treat other sleep disorders.

This intermediate-level training is geared towards mental health providers who are familiar with CBT. The program will be offered in an interactive lecture format, with ample opportunities for questions.
