Date / Time:

Learning Objectives

  • Identify ethical and legal concerns early on in treatment
  • Develop a systematic approach to solving ethical and legal concerns in a patient centered fashion.
  • Describe differences between litigation in courts and licensing proceedings.

Description:

This intermediate-level training will focus on highlighting current ethical and legal issues for mental health care providers. Through an interactive lecture, we will review current case studies and examples of legal and ethical issues facing mental health care providers. We will be discussing current ethical and legal trends in mental health, along with highlighting the different approaches necessary when providers are treating patients in medical legal cases and forensic matters.  We will also discuss the differences between litigation in courts and licensing proceedings. Participants will come away with a better understanding of how to spot ethical and legal concerns early on and be able to respond to such situations using a systematic, patient-centered approach.
