Join Child Psychologists Alison Haar and Talya Kook for a parenting workshop focused on teaching you strategies to help your anxious child. You’ll come away with new ideas and tools that can immediately be implemented to affect change in your home, as well as increased confidence in your ability to manage your child’s anxiety

Anxiety can be overwhelming not only for the child, but for the whole family. It can be challenging to know what is the “right” way to help your child in such moments, which parental behaviors unintentionally contribute to anxiety, and ultimately what you can do to help your child overcome anxiety.

Typical signs of anxiety in this age group include:

  • Difficulties around sleep and bedtime
  • Frequent worries about school, friends, parents, or health
  • Disproportionate or inappropriate reactions to worries (crying, tantrums)
  • Avoidance of activities
  • Frequent reassurance seeking
  • Failure to engage in developmentally appropriate activities due to worries

Parents will learn how to:

  • Identify behaviors you may be using that unintentionally exacerbate  your child’s anxiety
  • Respond in ways that can help mitigate your child’s anxiety
  • Pick up on the specific language used when your child is experiencing anxiety
  • Identify different types of common thinking errors as well as strategies in how to respond to the worries that will not go away
  • Address and redirect your child from a “worry spiral”
  • Help your child challenge and reframe their worry thoughts
  • Use relaxation techniques and coping strategies with your child

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A discussion so you can get your questions answered.
