The Ross Center offers professional development and continuing education opportunities for mental health providers and as an APA approved sponsor of continuing education, we are able to offer CE credits to psychologists.  We are proud to have many world-class, highly experienced clinicians as part of our team who will be providing trainings and seminars at our facilities.  It is part of our vision to expand the use of quality, evidence-based treatment that reflects best practices and up-to-date research.  We look forward to sharing the expertise and knowledge of our clinicians with other mental health providers so that individuals around the world no longer have to suffer from anxiety or depression.

NORTHERN VIRGINIA: Moving Toward a Transgender Affirmative Clinical Practice: Working with Transgender and Non-binary Children and Adolescents

Join us for full day intermediate-level workshop designed to help mental health practitioners working with children and adolescents to address biases and attitudes that undermine therapeutic safety, increase provider knowledge of gender minorities, and discuss the clinical issues facing transgender and non-binary clients. Both clinical and administrative considerations will be presented to ensure that clinical practices are ethical, affirming, and inclusive from start to finish. Participants will leave with clinical competencies to better meet the growing and evolving demands of this population.

NORTHERN VIRGINIA: Navigating ‘Hot Topic’ Ethical Issues in Today’s Medical-Legal Environment

This intermediate-level training will focus on highlighting current ethical and legal issues for mental health care providers. A practicing attorney will guide us through current case studies and examples of legal and ethical issues facing mental health care providers. We will be discussing current ethical and legal trends in mental health, along with highlighting the different approaches necessary when providers are treating patients in medical legal cases and forensic matters. We will also discuss the differences between litigation in courts and licensing proceedings. Participants will come away with a better understanding of how to spot ethical and legal concerns early on and be able to respond to such situations using a systematic, patient-centered approach.

NORTHERN VIRGINIA: Psychotropic Medications for Anxiety: An Overview for Psychotherapists

Participants will build awareness of the importance of their role in making a referral for medication management and ways in which they can collaborate with the prescriber to best coordinate services. Participants will come away with increased knowledge of psychotropic medications used to treat common anxiety disorders, including indications for when to refer, common side effects, expectations for efficacy, and related safety issues regarding medication.
