Dr. Andrea Biel is a licensed clinical psychologist committed to providing compassionate and effective care to college students, young adults, and adults. Genuine, kind, and relatable, Dr. Biel uses warmth and humor to foster trust, forge meaningful relationships, and create a safe and supportive environment. Together with her clients, Dr. Biel encourages thoughtful curiosity and questioning to promote desired growth and fulfillment. She is a firm believer that individuals have the capacity to thrive when given the opportunity to make sense of themselves, expand their frame of reference, and tap into their unique strengths and values. Dr. Biel relates especially well to individuals navigating the complexities of relationships, life transitions, and identity development. She offers individualized care that is adaptable, flexible, and responsive to each client’s needs. Dr. Biel values the coordination of care that is often required to achieve holistic wellness. Thus, she works with clients and other clinicians to provide integrated, quality care.

Areas of Expertise:

Dr. Biel specializes in working with those who are experiencing difficulties related to anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal/relationship issues, identity concerns, family of origin concerns, and grief/bereavement. She also has extensive experience in conducting psychoeducational and psychodiagnostic evaluations. She is passionate about working with university students, young adults, and adults from a clinical perspective guided by relational, psychodynamic, and strengths-based approaches aimed at fostering a greater sense of understanding and well-being. She helps individuals understand how personal difficulties initially arise, connecting past experiences to current patterns. Always working to meet the client’s preferences and needs, Dr. Biel often integrates her knowledge and appreciation for cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Dr. Biel has also completed EMDRIA-approved EMDR training. You can expect to walk away from therapy with Dr. Biel having discovered insights into how you view yourself and the world around you while also acquiring tools and a framework to sustain lasting change.

Experience and Training:

Dr. Biel earned her bachelor’s in Psychology at the University of Michigan. She went on to receive her master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology at Xavier University. She has experience working in a variety of outpatient settings including university counseling centers, community mental health organizations, and an academic teaching hospital. Dr. Biel completed her APA-accredited doctoral internship in health service psychology at the University of Miami Counseling Center. She also served as Chief Health Psychology Resident at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. Dr. Biel’s work demonstrates a commitment to and expertise in providing optimal and integrative outpatient services. She currently serves as the co-chair of The Ross Center’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Taskforce.

Dr. Biel has completed continuing education requirements that meet the initiatives of The Ross Center’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force.
