Practice Philosophy:

Jesse Hochheiser, Ph.D. offers mental health treatment to adolescents and adults who
are struggling with anxiety, mood disorders, and PTSD. Thoughtful and compassionate,
he listens carefully to each patient to understand their goals and challenges. He
develops a treatment plan that offers concrete strategies for improving one’s quality of
life. Dr. Hochheiser understands that patients often need to push outside their comfort
zone to achieve change, and he carefully motivates and leads clients toward progress.
Flexibility and collaboration are key, and he provides practical solutions that are
customized to the circumstances and needs of each person.

Areas of Expertise:

Dr. Hochheiser specializes in working with teens and adults with a range of issues,
including anxiety disorders, depression, mood disorders, and difficulties during life
transitions. He also has expertise in working with trauma, including sexual assault and
post-traumatic stress disorder. His treatment approach is flexible, and depending on the
patient he incorporates elements from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), behavioral
treatments, mindfulness and a humanistic perspective. Drawing from concepts of CBT,
he helps individuals to understand their own thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and
teaches clients to explore alternative approaches that are more helpful in achieving the
results they seek. He helps patients keep perspective as they experience significant
changes in life, providing a comfortable, caring environment to process fears,
relationship concerns, and desires. He works collaboratively with each client to develop
a personalized plan of action including concrete steps and achievable goals for behavior
change.

Experience and Training:

Dr. Hochheiser received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln where he gained extensive experience working with adolescents and
adults in therapy. After his internship at the Indianapolis VA Medical Center, he
completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Phoenix VA Medical Center. He has
received intensive training in Cognitive Processing Therapy – a treatment for PTSD, and
CBT. He believes that every person has the potential for positive growth, and cares
deeply about each patient.
