Dr. Shah teaches patients coping skills and management tools to relieve symptoms, and uses medication when appropriate. By integrating psychopharmacology, therapy, and other elements of wellness she leads patients through positive transformation toward a more fulfilling life. Her goal is to help each person become the best version of themselves.

Dr. Shah specializes in the treatment of depression and other mood disorders, anxiety (including panic attacks, excess worry and OCD), sleep difficulties, stress management, and peripartum and postpartum psychiatric disorders. She pursued additional training in the use of psychiatric medications during pregnancy, as well as treatment for addiction and substance abuse issues. She employs evidence-based psychotherapy principles, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic therapy. As a South Asian professional, she is sensitive to cultural issues and corresponding pressures from a variety of ethnicities, and is also fluent in Spanish.

She has specialized training in women’s mental health and was chief resident in a substance abuse unit where she gained further expertise in addiction medicine (including compulsive gambling and internet addiction). Dr. Shah helps patients understand how peripheral systems such as digestion, headaches, and chronic pain are impacted by stress, anxiety and depression. Her training allows her to deliver the highest standard of care, offering individualized treatment plans that meet the needs of each patient. When medication is indicated, she prescribes the most appropriate medication available that will offer the greatest impact on symptoms with the fewest side effects.
