Melanie VanDyke conducts training and consultation with mental health professionals. She earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Nebraska, where she helped establish the Anxiety Disorders Clinic with Debra Hope. Dr. VanDyke completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship in Intensive Treatment for Individuals with OCD and Related Disorders at the Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute, mentored by Alec Pollard. She has extensive experience in evidence-based treatments for anxiety and related disorders. Dr. VanDyke was recognized as the Missouri Psychologist of the Year and was elected to serve on the American Psychological Association’s Council of Representatives. She also contributes to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America’s (ADAA) Public Education Committee where she works to make evidence-based treatment information accessible to therapists, patients, and families.

Dr. VanDyke and her colleagues at SLBMI published research on Recovery Avoidance: improving treatment outcomes for individuals with treatment refractory symptoms and addressing family well-being when an individual refuses treatment. These projects culminated in the publication of the self-help book: When a Loved One Won’t Seek Mental Health Treatment: How to Promote Recovery and Reclaim your Family’s Well-Being. Dr. VanDyke trains and consults with clinicians to help these families with the Family Well-Being Approach.

Thank you for your interest in our SPACE-informed parenting group. Our group is designed to work with parents of children whose primary difficulty is anxiety with related avoidance behavior. Please answer the following questions so that we can gain a better understanding of you and your child.
