Single Session Therapy CAN Make a Difference - AP Article
The Ross Center was recently featured in a Associated Press article highlighting the growing impact of single-session therapy: “Can a single therapy session make a difference? Experts say yes, with the right mindset.”
The piece explores how focused, one-time sessions can help people gain clarity, feel less stuck, and leave with practical strategies for moving forward. Research shows that even a single, well-structured session can meaningfully reduce distress and improve well-being.
Dr. Sharon Thomas, the Ross Center Director of Single Session Consultations, describes what a client can expect when entering into a single session: "the client will be able to have meaningful change in their life, and that we’ll see an improvement in both their self-efficacy and a decline in their symptoms in just one visit.”
Rather than do a full assessment of the client’s past and current circumstances, the counselor targets a specific problem. By the end of the session, the client walks away with a written plan of steps toward alleviating it.
“Not everyone wants to discuss childhood trauma,” Thomas said. “It’s very much focused on what the client wants to focus on in that moment.”
At The Ross Center, our single-session therapy model is designed to be intentional, efficient, and deeply personalized—helping clients walk away with insight, direction, and a clear plan for next steps.
