Does your Middle Schooler …

  • Frequently appear nervous or tense?
  • Often complain of upset stomach, sore muscles, or headaches?
  • Avoid situations that seem challenging?
  • Seem overly anxious?

This 4-week Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) group will teach your child how to manage anxious thoughts and feelings, and teach you parenting strategies to help your anxious child.

The child group will be led by a child therapist, and will teach the children:

  • How to recognize anxiety before it gets in the way
  • Age appropriate relaxation techniques
  • Tips for challenging negative thought patterns
  • Strategies to participate more fully in situations they may currently be avoiding

Parents will meet separately with another therapist to learn best practices for how to parent an anxious child. The clinician will review topics such as how and when to push your child, the most appropriate responses to anxious behaviors, and how you can be most supportive in a way that minimizes anxious symptoms.

Your child will have the opportunity to learn alongside others who struggle with similar issues in a safe and understanding environment, and you’ll benefit from sharing experiences with other parents.

An assessment with a Ross Center clinician is required to ensure that this is the proper group for your child.
