Dr. Heather Reed is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides therapy to adults with a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, OCD, life transitions, relationship issues, grief, and stress associated with chronic illness. Genuine, practical, and down-to-earth, Dr. Reed collaborates with clients to choose therapies best suited to their life circumstances and symptoms. She values the process of listening, taking the time to understand each client’s unique background and goals. Her openness puts people at ease, giving them the opportunity to understand themselves, their interpersonal patterns, and the influences of their history with more clarity, empowering them with practical skills to make meaningful and authentic changes in their lives.

Dr. Reed has expertise in treating anxiety, mood disorders, and difficulties during life transitions for adults of all ages, from young adults through seniors. She has extensive experience helping individuals manage the emotional and psychological impact of chronic medical conditions, equipping clients with coping skills and behavioral strategies to minimize distress and improve overall wellbeing. She tailors treatment to each client, drawing from evidence-based therapies including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic/interpersonal therapy. She excels at helping caregivers manage the stress, burnout, and emotional burdens of taking care of others, and works with individuals struggling through bereavement and grief. She is skilled at helping people navigate stressful life changes, relationship struggles, and the pressures of a fast-paced life. She recognizes the challenges faced by parents when juggling the demands of family responsibilities and caring for aging relatives, and offers guidance and support during times of uncertainty. Additionally, she has experience in treating OCD with classical exposure and response prevention, offering tangible results that make a concrete difference in patients’ lives.

Experience and Training:

Dr. Reed received her Masters and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Duke University, and her B.A. in Psychology from Rutgers University. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center and her internship at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. Dr. Reed served as a staff psychologist and clinical instructor at the Stanford University Medical Center, where she provided empirically-supported therapies for a wide variety of concerns including mood, trauma-related, and anxiety disorders, with a particular focus on OCD. She also served as co-associate director of clinical training at the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium. Dr. Reed has received extensive training in behavioral medicine interventions for chronic health conditions, as well as interventions for trauma experiences. She is licensed to practice clinical psychology in Maryland and Virginia..
