Teaching preteens how to handle their emotions when they are young gives them skills to use throughout their lives
Our Big Feelings group is designed to teach preteens strategies for managing feelings and emotions in a safe and supportive environment. Led by a child psychologist, this group uses elements from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to teach children to feel more in control of their emotions.
Appropriate for Children Who:
- Have trouble managing their emotions, with frequent meltdowns or tantrums
- Have a hard time making or keeping friends
- Struggle with respecting boundaries or accepting the word ‘no’
- Suffer from anxiety, depression, or ADHD
- Become overwhelmed by social media and navigating the emotions surrounding on-line interactions
Preteens Can Expect to:
- Learn to manage overwhelming emotions like social anxiety, sadness, excitement, and impulsivity
- Participate in fun, age-appropriate therapeutic activities
- Build confidence and self-awareness
- Become more tolerant rather than reactive to emotions and triggering situations
- Normalize their challenges by connecting with peers who struggle with similar experiences
- Improve relationships with friends and families
- Develop a toolbox of skills that can be used throughout their life
