Dr. Gayle Goren is an Adult Psychiatrist who works with individuals who struggle with anxiety and mood disorders. She creates an environment where patients can find understanding, guidance, and solutions for conflicts and concerns in their lives. Through careful and thorough assessment and ongoing work, which can include both medication and therapy, she helps patients survive difficult times and go on to flourish in ways they had not thought possible. Insightful and warm, she couples a breadth of knowledge in psychiatric, medical, and psychological skills with a humane, empathetic approach to each unique individual.

Areas of Expertise:

As a Psychiatrist, Dr. Goren employs her knowledge in both psychopharmacology and psychotherapy, including psychodynamic therapy and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). She specializes in the evaluation and ongoing treatment of anxiety and mood disorders. These often occur in the context of challenging life transitions, and she regularly works with young adults in the academic realm, women in the pre-, peri- and post-partum stages of life, and individuals facing major career transitions. Additionally, she has pursued specialized training to treat those who struggle with substance abuse and psychiatric conditions. She is fluent in Spanish has a passion for multicultural issues that impact psychological health.

Experience and Training:

Dr. Goren received her Medical Degree from Mt. Sinai Medical School, and completed a residency in Adult Psychiatry at the Cambridge Health Alliance – Harvard Medical School. She pursued additional training through a public psychiatry fellowship at Columbia University and a psychodynamic psychotherapy certificate at the Columbia Psychoanalytic Institute. She has extensive experience in a broad range of services in psychiatry, working in both clinical and hospital settings. Dr. Goren also currently serves as a staff psychiatrist at the Columbia University Student Mental Health Service, providing psychotherapy and psychopharmacology for students.
