Practice Philosophy:

Maura Roll is a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with adults, adolescents, and their families. Personable and action-oriented, she knows that change requires commitment and holds clients accountable in a loving way. She begins by getting clients to accept things as they are before they start to work on getting better. She helps adults with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, and developing healthy boundaries within their relationships and families, including parenting challenges. Maura has a passion for treating adolescents and their families and relates especially well to teenagers. She takes the time to understand the systems a teen is navigating at home and school, and involves parents in treatment to ensure improved relationships, communication, and a calmer home dynamic. Additionally, Maura is known for her expertise with serious conditions, including substance abuse and trauma, and offers scientifically valid treatments that effectively treat complex issues.

Areas of Expertise:

Maura specializes in treating adolescents and their families, individuals with complex mental health conditions, and trauma survivors. She offers cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), family therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy, a form of CBT created to treat individuals with serious mental health conditions. She excels in working with families, providing guidance and support to improve family functioning while effectively treating the child or family member struggling with the primary mental health issue. As a certified substance abuse counselor, she is trained to address substance use that often underlies anxiety and depression.

Experience and Training:

Maura has a wealth of experience in both outpatient and residential treatment for addiction, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD and personality disorders. Extensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, she has completed the Level 3 DBT Intensive Training and DBT-PE Intensive Training from Behavioral Tech, a Linehan Institute Training Company. In addition, she is a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor with certifications in both Washington, DC and Virginia. She has provided dialectical behavior therapy in hospitals, clinics, and residential settings.
