Dr. Rajkaran Sachdej is a board certified adult psychiatrist who appreciates the complexity of human experiences and fosters an accepting and compassionate atmosphere for his patients. Known for his professional demeanor and empathetic manner, Dr. Sachdej comes to The Ross Center with a fresh, global perspective regarding mental health. He uses a comprehensive, holistic approach in his evaluations with the aim to treat symptoms as well as improve overall functionality. While he values the importance of medication in treatment, Dr. Sachdej empowers his patients to make educated decisions utilizing evidence-based research and personal risk/benefit evaluations. Treatment also includes a focus on diet and lifestyle to improve mental and physical health. Patients all have their own unique goals, and Dr. Sachdej customizes treatment to help each person achieve their ambitions so they can become their most genuine and healthy selves.

Areas of Expertise:

Dr. Sachdej has experience treating an array of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, OCD, and PTSD. Given his background and training, Dr. Sachdej has interests in global mental health and cross-cultural psychiatry. Dr. Sachdej has expertise around LGBTQ+ mental health concerns and offers patients a sexual orientation and gender identity-affirming space. Beyond this, he has interests and personal familiarity with complementary and alternative healing practices including traditional and folk medicine, mindfulness, and yoga. Dr. Sachdej is comfortable working with patients from all walks of life.

Experience and Training:

Dr. Sachdej received his Medical Doctorate from the Oregon Health and Science University where he was President of the University Student Council.  He completed his psychiatry residency at George Washington University and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University, where he majored in Neuroscience and Behavior & Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies. During residency, he published a chapter focusing on LGBTQ+ Global Mental Health, and completed a SAMHSA fellowship on diversity and equity in psychiatric care among Pacific Islanders. He has also held leadership positions on the American Psychiatric Association’s Council of International Psychiatry.
