It can be very challenging if your child struggles to connect with peers.
The earlier we can begin to treat children, the more likely they are to develop the skills they need to bounce back from life’s ups and downs. The Resilience Builder Program® uses a cognitive behavioral framework to enhance your child’s social competence and self-regulation. This Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)-based group will teach your child tools and strategies for engaging in conversations, handling conflict, respecting boundaries, and regulating emotions in a supportive, non-threatening environment.
Does Your Child:
- Struggle to make new friends?
- Worry excessively about what others think?
- Have difficulty initiating interactions with peers?
- Frequently violate social rules unintentionally?
This program is designed using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to teach strategies for overcoming social challenges in a safe, small social setting.
Children can expect to:
- Gain confidence in social situations
- Identify and challenge negative thought and behavior patterns
- Develop leadership skills
- Practice social skills in real-life situations with other children
Group therapy can be a very effective way to improve your child’s social competence.
Your child will have the opportunity to learn alongside other children who struggle with similar issues in a safe and understanding environment. The group involves discussing specific skills, practicing through role play and free play, and generalization through homework (to play!). Parents will receive weekly handouts informing them of specific weekly skills and strategies to support their child. Parents will also be invited to join their children for a portion of the group several times.
This group meets in-person in our N. Virginia office.
An assessment with a Ross Center clinician is required to ensure that this is the proper group for you.
