Practice Philosophy
Dr. Taghian is a Postdoctoral Fellow who works with adults experiencing a range of concerns, including anxiety, OCD, trauma, depression, and substance use. Warm, authentic, and compassionate, she works collaboratively and intentionally to understand each client’s unique experiences and needs. She strives to create a safe, supportive environment where clients feel heard and understood, while also providing the honest feedback and accountability that can help them move forward.
Dr. Taghian helps clients develop greater self-awareness and recognize the thoughts and behavior patterns that are not serving them. Her approach is practical and action-oriented, helping clients translate insight into meaningful change in their day-to-day lives. She works with clients to build the skills and confidence to tolerate uncertainty, manage anxiety and urges, navigate relationships, and respond more effectively to challenges. When appropriate, she incorporates between-session practice to help clients put these coping skills into action. Her goal is to help clients better understand what may be holding them back and take concrete steps toward living a more fulfilling life.
Areas of Expertise
Dr. Taghian specializes in working with adults struggling with anxiety, OCD, substance use, trauma and depression. She has extensive training in evidence-based cognitive and behavioral therapies, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). She has expertise in the treatment of substance use and trauma, and utilizes interventions including Prolonged Exposure (PE), Written Exposure Therapy (WET), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), CBT-SUD, and Relapse Prevention. Dr. Taghian helps each client develop the practical skills, insights, and strategies that create lasting change.
Experience and Training
Dr. Taghian earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Boston University and completed her doctoral internship at the VA Boston Healthcare System. She received her bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from Trinity College. Dr. Taghian’s training has spanned a variety of treatment settings, including the Center for Anxiety and Related Ddisorders at Boston University, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Division of Alcohol, Drugs, and Addiction at McLean Hospital. She has extensive clinical experience working with patients experiencing substance use disorder, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, and OCD, and is trained in delivering neuropsychological assessments in diverse populations. Her dissertation research on compulsive alcohol use deepened her understanding of the factors driving addictive and compulsive behaviors, informing her clinical work with individuals facing these challenges.
