Intended for:

Adults with Social Anxiety age 18 and Up

Date / Time:

12-week Group, Thursdays: 5-6:30pm. New Groups Forming Throughout the Year

The pandemic made it easier for those of us who are socially anxious to avoid interactions in public. As life begins to return to a ‘new normal’, social anxiety can become an even larger problem as we’re all out of practice. Symptoms of social anxiety can limit your ability to live as fully as possible, but there is hope. This 12-week Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) group will teach you tools and strategies for overcoming social anxiety in a supportive, non-threatening environment.

Do You:

  • Worry excessively about what others think of you?
  • Struggle to make friends or pursue relationships?
  • Find it difficult to start or interrupt conversations?
  • Have a hard time speaking up for yourself?

In this group, you can expect to:

  • Challenge and change negative thought patterns
  • Learn mindfulness techniques
  • Develop assertiveness skills
  • Practice social skills with other adults
  • Enter, stay in, and learn to manage uncomfortable social situations

Group therapy can be a very effective way to address social anxiety.

You’ll have the opportunity to learn alongside others who struggle with similar issues in a safe and understanding remote environment. The group involves role-playing, exposing yourself to anxious situations, and a lot of practicing skills both in the group and at home through personalized homework challenges. You will be able to live the life you want, no longer avoiding situations as you learn to ‘tolerate the discomfort’ of anxiety with new self-confidence.

Participants must be from the Virginia, Washington DC, or Maryland region.

An assessment with a Ross Center clinician is required to ensure that this is the proper group for you.
