What is SPACE?
This 7-week virtual group is designed for parents of children (ages 5–18) struggling with anxiety or OCD-related challenges. Based on the evidence-based SPACE program (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions), developed at the Yale Child Study Center by Dr. Eli Lebowitz, this group empowers parents to support their child’s anxiety in healthier, more effective ways.
Through weekly 90-minute Zoom sessions, parents will learn how to shift away from “accommodating” behaviors—like excessive reassurance or avoidance—that can unintentionally reinforce anxiety. Instead, you’ll discover how to encourage your child to face fears with confidence.
By reducing an ‘accommodating’ approach to a child’s anxiety, parents are able to engage in a manner that ultimately enhances the child’s ability to cope with anxious thoughts and feelings.
What can you expect from a SPACE group?
In this group, you will:
- Gain confidence in parenting your anxious child
- Develop the tools to to respond supportively without reinforcing anxiety
- Learn how to more effectively address your child’s anxiety
- Begin reducing your own accommodating behaviors that may be contributing to your child’s anxious patterns
