Practice Philosophy:
Bianca Lerer is an engaging Licensed Mental Health Counselor specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents, young adults, families and couples. She has the ability to immediately make patients feel comfortable, creating a safe, trusting environment to openly share concerns and difficulties. Using a collaborative, empathetic approach, she takes the time to understand each person’s unique circumstances, and tailors a treatment plan that will produce the best results. She teaches skills in conflict resolution, effective communication and problem solving that impact behaviors and reduce tensions in couples and families. Family therapy can be beneficial when a child has been struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD or an adjustment disorder, as Bianca will provide strategies for the entire family that lead to more cohesive family dynamics that don’t solely revolve around the child.
Areas of Expertise:
Bianca works with a wide variety of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, and low self-esteem. She is passionate about helping young people who are transitioning into high school, college, or adulthood; periods often complicated by school stressors, family conflict, and other emotional difficulties. She uses a combination of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), the gold standard for treating anxiety, and Functional Family Therapy (FFT), which focuses on how relationships impact one’s thoughts and behaviors. When appropriate, she has patients invite family members and loved ones in for several sessions to facilitate improved communication and maximize the greatest effect and change.
Experience and Training:
Bianca received her Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Yeshiva University – Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. She was trained in Functional Family Therapy (FFT) by Dr. James Alexander, the founder of FFT, and spent several years honing her skills while providing in-home therapy sessions to families throughout NYC. In addition, she has attended workshops in Cognitive Behavior Therapy at the well known Beck Institute for CBT. Her clinical experience includes individual, couple, and family therapy, and she helps patients navigate complex relationships that can impact levels of anxiety and depression. Ultimately she equips her patients with the tools to improve their lives and relationships.
Bianca exclusively provides virtual treatment using a HIPAA compliant telemedicine platform.
